Present & Accountable: A Year of Service in CPS District 10

What showing up looks like — from the Boardroom to the Block.

Why This Report

This report is a commitment to transparency. When families send their children to CPS schools, they are placing extraordinary trust in the people elected to govern. That trust must be honored — not with rhetoric, but with evidence of consistent, meaningful service.

Accountability is not just about showing up to meetings. It is about stewardship of public resources, advocating for equitable outcomes, and ensuring that every decision centers the students and communities of District 10.

Accountability starts with presence.

What Showing Up Has Meant

Raising the Standard for Board Accountability

Establishing that elected board members should be measured by their presence, preparation, and follow-through — not just their votes.

Grounding Governance in Real School Experience

Ensuring that decisions made at the board level reflect what is actually happening inside classrooms, hallways, and school communities every day.

Expanding Access Between Board & Community

Creating regular, meaningful opportunities for families, students, and educators to engage directly with their elected representative.

Modeling Inquiry Over Performance

Prioritizing thoughtful questions, deep listening, and collaborative problem-solving over grandstanding or political theatre at board meetings.

Bridging Culture, Belonging & Education

Recognizing that student success depends not only on curriculum and resources, but on whether students feel seen, valued, and safe in their schools.

Fiscal Stewardship & Long-Term Stability

Responsible governance means responsible budgeting. In Year One, District 10's representative consistently advocated for sustainable financial planning — opposing unsound borrowing practices and pushing for budget transparency at every level.

Protecting taxpayer dollars is not just a fiscal issue; it is an equity issue. When resources are mismanaged, the students and communities with the least are the ones who lose the most.

Looking Ahead: Year Two Commitments

Year One was about learning, listening, and laying the groundwork. Year Two is about building on that foundation — focusing on equitable policy shaped by student experience and data, not politics.

Responsible Stewardship of Resources

Continuing to push for transparent, sustainable budgeting that puts students first and protects long-term fiscal health.

Transparent, Accountable Governance

Expanding public reporting, community engagement, and clear communication about how decisions are made.

Elevating Student Voice

Deepening the student cohort program and ensuring youth perspectives directly inform board priorities and policy.

Ongoing School & Community Engagement

Expanding school visits, community forums, and partnerships to reach every corner of District 10.

Stay Engaged

This work only moves forward with you. Whether you attend a community forum, visit a school, or simply stay informed — your engagement is what makes District 10 stronger.

Governance is not a solo act. It is a partnership between elected leaders and the communities they serve.
